About Us

A Long Island based Law Firm with 25+ Years Experience serving Nassau County, Suffolk County, New York City, and New York Federal Courts.

Our Lawyers Will Fight For You

A Criminal Defense Attorney is the person you hope you never need but if / when you do, you need the right one. The right one has experience, listens, tells you what they believe they can do for you rather than just what you may want to hear, and will be your zealous advocate at every stage of a criminal proceeding against you, a family member or a friend.

Whether your loved one was just arrested and you need help finding an attorney for the arraignment, or bail has unfortunately been set and their next court appearance is in a day, our firm is able to respond, explain the legal process the person is facing, and appear with them once we are retained. Our familiarity with all levels of New York State felonies, misdemeanors and even serious traffic violations helps us handle the full range of state criminal charges under the New York State Penal Law, as well as violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law including DWI’s (some people call it DUI), as well as those charged with Aggravated Operation of a Motor Vehicle, or even traffic tickets as needed.

Our firm is not limited to NYS Courts. Mr. Lo Piccolo and Mr. Carra are both admitted to the Federal Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Mr. Lo Piccolo’s first exposure to criminal defense was with the top federal defender’s office in the nation, the Federal Defenders of San Diego, over thirty years ago. We have successfully defended many clients on serious federal charges.

Due to our proximity to many Long Island colleges and universities, including Hofstra, Adelphi, Molloy, C.W. Post, SUNY Farmingdale, St. John’s, and Stonybrook on Long Island, as well as all New York City Universities, we can help your children should they find themselves in trouble far from home. We are also familiar with the many offenses that can arise from a family member landing at our two major New York City Airports, JFK & LaGuardia, and can appear with them to resolve those matters as quickly and reasonably as possible.

MEET THE ATTORNEYS

Joseph A. Lo Piccolo

Joseph A. Lo Piccolo, Esq. is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts and Hofstra University School of Law, with a focus on criminal defense. After law school summer internships at both the Federal Defender’s Office in San Diego and the Philadelphia Defender’s office, two of the top criminal defense agencies in the nation, Joseph graduated and began a six-plus year career at The Legal Aid Society of New York, Criminal Defense Division, Queens County. During that time, he represented an average of 1,200 clients annually, on charges ranging from simple assault to homicide. During that same period, he tried over thirty jury and bench cases, more than half of which were serious violent felonies, while negotiating a multitude of favorable dispositions for his clients on a daily basis.

Upon entering private practice in 2003, Joseph began expanding his criminal practice
into white collar crime and federal criminal defense after being admitted into the
Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He has continued to successfully try major
felony cases in Nassau County and New York City Supreme Courts, along with a
Military Court Martial trial in 2007. At last count, Joseph has tried over one hundred
and fifty criminal cases to verdict.

In 2009, Joseph became a partner in the law firm of Hession Bekoff & Lo Piccolo, LLP
and then the Managing Partner for Bekoff, Feinman & Lo Piccolo, P.C., a firm focused
on Criminal Defense and Family Law. In September 2023, Joseph founded a solo
practice, Lo Piccolo Law, P.C., with expectations it will immediately become the go to
law firm for those seeking representation for themselves, or their loved ones, charged
with a criminal offense. Those expectations have been met as the firm has grown in both size and success.

Joseph is also a Past President of the Criminal Courts Bar Association of Nassau County and a member of the Nassau County Bar Association, where he is part of the Criminal Court Law and Procedure Committee, and a Past Co-Chair to the Advisory Board of WE CARE, the charitable arm of the NCBA. Joseph has been an adjunct professor for the N.I.T.A. Trial Techniques Program and Criminal Justice Clinic based out of Hofstra University, and a guest lecturer for the Legal Aid Society of New York new attorney training program.

Outside of the office, Joseph coached both his boys in baseball for nearly ten years, as
well as being active in his local community. He also volunteers much of his free time to
charities and organizations which help those in need in Nassau County, as well as to
Kellenberg Memorial High School, where his two children graduated over the past
decade. His favorite saying is “We have one life to live therefore we have one life to
give.

In May 2024, Nicholas left the District Attorney’s Office and began work in private
practice with Lo Piccolo Law, P.C. Since then, he has been admitted into the Southern
and Eastern Districts of New York to practice federal criminal defense. As a defense
attorney, Nicholas has completed trials for charges of Robbery, Assault with a Deadly
weapon, Burglary, Sex Offenses, Forged Documents, and more. With this trial
experience and familiarity with the responsibilities of a prosecutor, he has individualized knowledge and experience in the world of criminal law in Long Island and the Five Boroughs.

When he is not in court, Nicholas enjoys beach days the most, but also spends
time skiing, golfing, boxing, and going to Jets games and Mets games. He loves
